I have a 94 thats a stick and I have 3.07 grears. I found a junk xj with alot of parts and it was a auto. Like 98% of 1991 and newr xj's have 3.55 gears that was a auto. That would put you a litter bit better then with just stock tires and a litter less with 33" tires in the rpm's . It is a fast and very easy way to have better gears and very very cheap.

Just tried out this fix. Even though my Jeep was shifting fine before I still noticed a fairly substantial improvement. Highly recommend this to everyone.

Went and did this on my 89 4dr with 129k feels much better, much snappier. But I did learn that my linkage clip thingy that connects the throttle cable to the TB is broken, it stays on but only takes a light bump to have it fall off. Also I noticed that I only have 1 click left before I'm out of adjustment. do I need to worry about it? how would I go about giving myself more adjustment?

The reason I was saying WTF are you talking about is because if you have read this thread at all you would have noticed you don't "ADD" anything you press a button, and move the "CONDUIT" that is already there. If you would have read before asking, you wouldn't have had anything to ask.

and to answer your question read the VERY FIRST POST........

It felts sloppy and had trouble down shifting on steep inclines. Well here is the solution that worked for me! It costs all of $0 and about 5 minutes including the test drive.

Here are the instruction

-Open hood while vehicle is off in park.
-Find TB
-Press and hold cable release button.
-While holding cable release button push conduit into ratcheting cable release button.
-Hold conduit in.
-Release the cable release button.
-Open TB to wide open and the button will automatically ratchet and lock into the correct place.
-Test drive!!!

I found this on one of b16a90teg's posts on NAXJA.

I know its a "write up" but i think it would have more use to people on the tech section

I did this yesterday. No huge noticeable difference, but there was quite a bit of slack in my kickdown cable, and the truck seems to downshift with less throttle application.. Just something extra to do while I was checking fluids.

this seems easy but i have questions. so your saying if you have sloppy shifting this should help? i know that cable has quite a bit of slack in it. so correct me if im wrong, all i have to do is press that release button that open the throttle?

Not exactly. Hold the release button, push the conduit in, let go of the release button, then WOT. The release button should ratchet when you do the WOT part.

I got tired of having to let off the gas completely and then pressing it down all the way again to get passing gear. Tried this and wow, this will make passing the slow people on the way to work much easier. I did this at 9:00 in the evening too. Had to do it before the wife got out of class. She hasn't been impressed with the large amounts of time i have been spending with my buddy in the driveway.

i tried this and mine did nothing but NOT want to shift into gear. there was no ratcheting or nothing. so i drove up and down the block till i finally got it in the right spot

Made my shifting go from good to jerk-forward every time it shifted.

Adjusted it myself and now it shifts better than before.

Removing the 230k miles worth of slack made one hell of a difference!

This sounds like a great fix. I'm going to try it tonight when I get home.
