Default flexplate problem shooting.

Hi all! So im having a ticking noise coming from my trans. Looked and it was my flexplate. Took out torque bolts and cleaned them then tighten them down. I must of over tighten them because now the ticking sound is gone and my xj can't go into gear at all. So im guessing the flexplate completely broke from the ring gear for this to happen.

My question is am i right or could it be something else? Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen any cracks but when i took the cover off and rotated the plate. I can see the welds done on the plate was hitting the cover. I have a new plate coming Thursday and see if i can spot anything diffrent from old to new.

Would a little crack cause my xj to not go into gear at all?

A cracked flexplate just makes noise. Not going into gear is something else so long as your flexplate hasn't completely grenaded.

if my flexplate isn't the problem, what other possibilities could cause my Jeep not to go in gear?

The flexplate is just a round metal plate bolted to the crankshaft with teeth on the outside for the starter to turn when you turn the key to start the engine. The flexplate has nothing to do with going into gear. Start by checking your transmission fluid level. Low transmission fluid can cause the transmission to not shift. It could be the Torque Converter but if it's not those, then it's probably internal to the transmission.
