Default Looking at a clean 01 Cherokee Sport

Hey Everyone,

I am a newbie. Currently own a 98 VW GTI. Living in Colorado I have found that a 4WD is much more fun. I found a Cherokee on craigslist which looks like a smoking deal. I need someone to convince me to pull the trigger. Craigs ad is below.

Colorado cars stay pretty rust free. If it drives well and sounds well, it probably is. They have to have emissions in hand to sell you the car, make sure THEY get it done BEFORE you buy. You will find that NOT in 4wd, it drives TERRIBLY in our snow, but the 4wd will kill anything that you would WANT to drive in.

If you are not in too much of a hurry (we may be done with big snows for now), keep your eyes open for a few years earlier. Waiting for a 98 is worth it if you have the time to spare.

There are XJs all over the place out here for sale, and that one does seem nice, but the price is out of line, should be closer to $4K or under.

Awesome, I am going to take a look anyway tomorrow. I might take your advice on waiting and watching as I am not in a rush. My car runs fine but I am looking for a change.

Thanks for the feedback everybody, very helpful.

Read about models then. They all come along eventually. I had a 95 sport that was awesome, but now that I have my 98 Limited, its a world of difference. We have a large quantity of high quality XJs in Denver, so if you can take the time, do so.

Read about the YEARS and their differences, read about the MODELS and their differences, make your own opinion about WHY you want which, and wait for it. In my case I was a self mechanic, second XJ, daily driver vehicle that has to have snow capabilities. Wife will use it to go skiing.

I waited on a 98 and SCORED the limited.

Looks clean. Crawl underneath it and check the floor boards, tailgate, and rock sliders for rust. Don't forget to drive it >50mph on an uneven surface to verify death wobble. After you do this, offer $4k.
