Default To fix the leak or not?

Hi guys.

I have a slight transmission fluid leak, every time I park my XJ a couple or drops of pink fluid out of one of the seals.

Should I do something about it now OR just do nothing?

thanks.

leaking from the pan seal? If so, fix it!! I don't think that's a hard job to do at all on the cherokee...although I haven't done it myself. Just drain it, drop the pan, clean it up some, throw a new seal on there and be done with it if I understand correctly

if it is just the pan, then ya i would fix it. I would be tempted to just add fluid every so often when i remembered, but i tried that in my integra, added fluid in the trans when i did the oil change, well i got lazy and did it every other oil change, then whenever i remembered. this led to tranny failure because i was too lazy to add fluid when i needed to. So ya, i thought i was better than that, but it was like 3 years went by and i lost a tranny because of it. it was leaking out of the case because i hit it on a rock, not an easy fix like a pan gasket, so ya, dont be like me, fix the gasket, save your tranny lol

You've never pulled a pan on an aW4, have you? The dipstick tube is part of the pan and CAN be quite a chore to get off of the upper part the first time.

First time I did mine on my 91 I didn't know the dipstick tube was two pieces. I just loosened it up from where its help to the tranny tunnel/engine bay.

I was out from under the jeep cleaning the trans pan when I heared a clunk. The pan dropped. Lol

Oh, and if its leaking replace the seal and you might as well put a new filter in. Cheap and easy and you're in there anyways.

yeah, I love the Haynes on this: " remove bolts, drop pan". Haha, if only it were like that. But the FSM is not much better in warning you about the dipstick tube issue.
