finding LSD
OK I was wondering if there is a why to look at like 1999 1998 grand cherokees and know if they have LSD that will fit my 89 cherokee. They all have the same axle but how can I tell if it has a stock LSD and correct gearing with out having to pull apart. Also I have a 99 wranlger here with the same axle to look at as well. Oh and I am talking about the rear.
Thanks
Thanks

I was looking at the cover for the diff and its the same as mine or so I thought. I will check the tags and see if I see anything. Are there any certain model types that come with the LSD or is it kinda a hit or miss type thing?

Do you have a D35 axel? Grands have those also, but same problem most of the LSD came with the tow package which had 3.73 gears. I have yet to find a 3.55 in a grand with the LSD. You can buy a LSD diff carrier w/gears new for about $250 if you shop around. Then again a locker costs about the same.

If thats the case cant I just swap both front and rear if it has LSD rear?

Okay.. Well... first problem... The Trac-Loc for a non C-clip D-35 is different than one from a C-clip rear...
Second the carrier break for the Dana 35 is 3.55 and down.. So... you need a different Trac-Loc for 3.73 gears than for 3.55 gears.
Third... you can't just pull a carrier out of another axle and slap it in yours... You have to have it set-up for the specific axle. This is the reason Lunch Box lockers are so popular. They are around $250, and you don't have to mess with having the gears set-up again.

I would get a locker or get an LSD kit for the axel you have. Better yet Find a C8.25 axel.
