how did no one catch this? it takes 12 inch pounds to equal 1ft/lb. that said 5ft/lb would be 60 inch pounds. if you're going to attempt a proper torque you must use a 1/4" torque wrench. the bigger stuff is not accurate with torque values this low

Will the $5.99 one be fine, or should I get the $39?

I did the felpro gasket as well. Apparently who ever did it before i got the jeep never even used a gasket of any kind. Just RTV. Scraped it all off. Cleaned everything up nice and got it installed. No leaks any more. The thing was leaking like a stuck pig before. I may need yo do the oil filter adapter and the oil pressure srndung unit. Still seeing leaks down there. Lets just say that the undercarriage will never rust with alk that oil covering everything.

When I did my valve cover gasket recently, i found that what was actually leaking was the rubber grommets around the bolts were cracked. Looks like the PO did just the gasket and reused the old grommets.

I'm not sure if this applies to all jeeps though (mine is a 2000). If you have an option to, make sure your kit has these grommets. You just pull the old cracked ones off the metal seating nut and pop in the new one.

It cut my leak down to just a silver dollar drop a day. Which looks like its coming from the rear main seal area. I'm not messing with that for now haha.

Could that be the difference between the $5 and $40 gasket?

Get the $40 gasket bro. It'll be the difference between changing it again months down the road to changing it years down the road. And those little rubber grommets are more there to help so you don't crush and ruin the gasket, not to stop leaks around the hole. If you had the bolts tight enough (but not TOO tight or you'll break a bolt), you won't leak oil at the bolt holes.

Which is better, the $39 I posted or yours? And I pretty much decided to go with it too. Might as well spring for the better one.

I think that is the way they come from the factory.

When I did mine I bought both. The cork and the blue one with the steel core.

It wasn't an easy clear shot putting my valve cover gasket on. It took a lot of prying pulling and wiggling getting the thing off. After that I took one look at the cork gasket and remembered the post here about the Felpro blue gasket.

Luckily they didn't seem to mind the exchange.

I didn't mind that it sort of stayed where it was suppose to be while I pried, push and wiggled the thing back on. Cork would have been a nightmare.

It looks like the one you posted has the grommets incorporated in it, whereas the one I posted, the grommets are all separate and might be a pain to line up and keep on straight while bolting it back up. So I'd go with the one you posted

I don't think that is true at all.
