Default engine trouble

i have a 2000 xj sport and it has had a lifter knock for a while now and this weekend developed rod knock that is progressively getting worse. i would like to know my options at this point. i heard rebuilding is cheaper but more machine work. Also the risk of buying a used engine and that taking a crap on me. Your input would be much appreciated!

I bought a motor with 109,000k,after installing it found it had lower end noise,it turned out to be the thrust went out. It had great compression so I removed the motor and had the crank inspected and polished, all total it was $150, Including bearing set. I did all the work except machine work.
I was not able to afford the rebuild at the time, and it has turned out great for me.
If you have alot of miles then I would rebuild it and I would do all the work except machine work yourself,if you can.
If it is low on miles you may get away with just replacing the bearings.

for the most part any used motor that some one is selling should be some what fine. you have a 30 day money back no matter who sold it to

it does have alot of miles, about to roll over to 200k. im pretty capable to do the labor myself but i wouldnt know where to send the parts to get machined as well as how extensive the damage is. like whether i would have to bore it out and get new pistons. i know i am going to need a new lifter kit for sure.
