So I've been searching around for the last 2 weeks or so and haven't been able to find anything beyond a tune-up or changing plugs, bored throttle body new muffler those things. I was hoping you guys could possibly give me something else yo do to bring back the power. And right now a stroker is too expensive. So I'm looking for something else, please help?

 

A true cai, headers, and cat back exhaust is about all you can do to gain any "power" besides a stroker. The I6 wasn't made to generate hp, you win with torque.

A cai and full exhaust should get you a gain of about 20+hp(in a healthy engine)....and that's being generous. So either look forward to a stroker or a 350 swap if you want power.

 

Are the 350s a direct bolt in?

 

No, You need new engine mounts, wiring harness, transmission adapters and so on.

There have also been guys that runa turbo or supercharger but that in itself is involved. The engine SHOULD be rebuilt with stronger components to handle the added boost, and if youre going to rebuild you might as well stroke it out in the first place.

I would reccomned getting your motor running healthy before you start adding any hp bolt-ons.

 

Its got 200k and has a ticking, and just doesn't seem like it has the power it should...

 

First off, what year?

Have you done the complete tune-up including plugs, wires, cap and rotor?

Checked your intake manifold bolts to see if they loosened up?

 

Its a 99 yes I've done the complete tune up. I have checked the manifold bolts. I've even taken the throttle body off and cleaned it.

 

You want more power?

Maybe you should consider a 5.7 Grand Cherokee. Otherwise, you're pretty much there with the 4.0 without serious modifications.

 

Something must be wrong. My '00 has a little over 219k and runs like a champ. Bored tb, high flow drop-in air filter, tb spacer, 784 injectors, Magnaflow muffler with 2.5" pipe. I'm pretty happy with the little umpf I got from the mods but I'd like more. Eventually I'll get headers and compete 2.5" exhaust with a true cold air cowl intake.

Have you checked your throttle cable for slack?

 

Ya I adjusted the cable as well. I just haven't done all those mods you mentioned. I was looking beyond that first.

 

To tell you the truth, besides the simple bolt-on parts that give little HP gains, you're not going to gain any real big HP without spending some good money no matter what car or engine you're looking at.

Have your compression tested, check all the bolts in the intake and exhaust monifolds and look for cracks, fuel pressure check, inspect all vac lines, seafoam treatment and so on. Once you've determined that the engine is healthy and runing well start getting your bolt-ons. Just a cai and cat-back exhaust can run you up to $500 and thats not even installed.

I got my cat-back from www.performance-curve.com and I am VERY pleased with the gains and sound not to mention I got it to my door for under $175. Luckily I had my own welder at the time and I put it on myself which saved probably $100

 

I've got a gently used comp cam I just pulled if any of ya'll want to get that involved, less than 50k miles, will work with stock ecu.
