Ok folks, my 2000 XJ has an intermittent electrical issue after a shop pulled the dash and replaced the heater core. I’m suspecting a loose ground wire. Anyone done this job before? And if so, where is the ground that would have to be messed with when pulling the dash?

 

This is the problem with doing the heater core/evaporator...there's a TON of wiring and connectors behind there. And we all know what happens when you start messing with 20 year old wiring/connectors, plastic and insulation are brittle and prone to splitting, cracking, or outright breaking. The only way to find it is guess what? Pulling the dash and inspecting it...you might be able to use a Power Probe to assist you, but you pretty much are going to have to get back there and noggin poke...

I'm getting ready to do this job later this summer before winter hits. I'm dreading it for this very reason, lol

 

we have been trying to search for ground 108 it’s supposed to be behind the kick panel on the driver-side. Can’t find any ground there and this ground is responsible for all the issues it’s having. Any idea? anybody have a picture they can take of G108? The only thing we haven’t looked is behind the fuse panel.

 

You said you had a shop replace the heater core. They messed it up, they need to fix it, take it back
Because they did the work,and did it as fast as possible, you have no way to know how they did things and no way to know what they might have messed up. You're going to make yourself nuts trying to track down their mistake.

 

I think if you remove the big panel directly under the steering column, you would be able to see the grounds. I think they were in the area behind the head light switch.

 

If you're determined to try to fix this yourself rather than taking it back to whoever worked on it when you have the covers below the steering column off as mentioned above AND YOU'VE HAD THE BATTERY DISCONNECTED FOR 15MIN SO YOU DON'T BLOW YOURSELF UP WITH THE AIRBAG you'll see a very large, probably white connector up under the dash ( c201 I think) there's a bolt through it but try reseating the two halves of the connector. It gets torqued when you swing out the dash to do the core and can foul up all sorts of things.

These Friken Mechanics! Finally found the ground wires G108, found the ground post first, and no grounds attached, took me a while to find the wires! They were connected to the plastic stud attached to the dash! I’m sick and tired of fixing problems after a mechanic works on this Jeep and creates problems! If I owned a lift I would do all my own repairs! Finally my no bus error along with several other faults are gone!

 

All right, so I have a 98xj the heater core went out. I had a whole 2000 xj that everything worked on it just slung a rod so I pulled the dash out of the 98 and heater core out of the 98 sat it aside After doing the same to the 2000 and reinstalling the 2000 dash and heater core into the 98 body none of my gauges work has power all the dummy lights work none of the gauges work the blinkers don’t work, so after a long day of pulling the 2000 dash back out and putting the original dash in and hooking everything back up I still have no gauges no blinkers and now the cluster out of the 98 says no bus so I swap the 2000 cluster into the 98 dash and the only thing that goes away is the no bus all my other problems are still there so I went through all the regular fuse checks, grounding checks in both ashes, even though I don’t think the grounds in both dashes would’ve went out at the exact same time so I think it’s somewhere on the PDC, junction box, or the c201 connector side, fuses 5 6 and seven in the junction box does not have power also
