Heater core thats all i have to say, no questions, no problems, just wanted to comment what i did for the new year. didnt want to do a heater core but its done. every last vehicle ive owned blows the heater core. not suprised. i must say the new one is bigger and looks better built than the stock jeep one.

Can't say that they're all too fun to change out. I changed my evaporator case out not too long ago; man am I glad that's over.

CobraMarty: You'd really just be looking at the cost of a coolant change and the cost of the heater core itself. It's extremely straight forward, but it is also extremely time consuming as you have to remove the entire dash to access it. If you're handy with a wrench, you could get it done with the dash back together within a day's time of work.

Pardon a newb for asking what may be a dumb question . . . but don't you have to discharge the A/C system somewhere in the process too?

I'm currently driving without heat and all signs are pointing to the heater core in the 2000 XJ I just picked up (43,000 miles!), and the fear of messing with the A/C is what's keeping me from digging into the problem.

That, and the fact that yesterday it was 60 degrees . . . in Nebraska . . . in January. If it the weather was acting like it was last year, I'd probably be a little more diligent. Then again, of course there's no snow this year . . . I have a Jeep now.
