Electric Fan
Okay guys, I want to get rid of my mechanical fan on my 99 XJ. I have another electric fan just like the stock one thats already on there. Is there a way I can put it on there to replace the clutch fan? How should I go about this? Should I wire one to work all the time and the other one will kick on when it needs to right? Seems easy enough.

mmmmm i would keep the mechanical fan, just cuase the clutch will activate when it gets hot so you dont have to deal with it, just wondering what makes you want to take it off?

Just really to free it up. Not half to hear it running. Just a preference thing more than anything. I may do some testing with it and see what I come up with.

more power you can feel and better mpg. 6lbs of rotating mass when engaged, i think 4 when not engaged. its a great mod but if you do do the 2 stock jeep fans use 97+. they have higher cfms

Both that I have are 97+ model fans. Think there would be a problem with it? Think I should use the other elec fan to kick on when needed or run it all the time?

Yes I observe quite well, But I dont wanna chance it and forget to kick it on when needed. I may just test it and see how it does temp wise with one on all the time. Maybe if it will still run at operating temp like with the mech fan I will keep it that way. I am really interested in getting all electric fans and getting rid of my AC pump and replacing it with a Pulley.

do not run it all that time. it will increase drag on alt and not gain you as much. couple options here. go to your parts stor and buy a fan contoler box $50ish and comes with relay and thermo switch, or figure out what thermo switch you want and buy your own relay $40. DO NOT go more than 3 degrees below what you thermostat is rated at. I run a 203 degree switch

My stat is a 195 I am thinking. So I would want the fan on at what? Like 200 or so? What should I set one to kick on and off at? Wonder what the mech fan settings are? Hmm I will look around for an electric fan controller.

leave the one that in there alone. it will kick at 217 (or if you feel need to kick it on just turn the defrost on) Like i said i(the switch) kick mine on at 203 and it shuts down at 185. if its 50 degrees or cooler and i stay moving it never kicks on. kinda nice. i havent had it kick on on the highway at all but the warmest day since i have had the electric has been 75. The stock electric i havent heard since the swap

Does your temp hand stay where it should with your setup? Mine right now stays at the mark before 210 about at all times. It goes there and stays there. I wanna keep it that way but get rid of the clutch fan. Im guessing it would seeing that the stat has more to do with it. The fan is just there in case it goes over too much. Something so simple has to be so damn complicated

How to do this is up in the air for me. If I wired the 2nd fan into the one already there then they would both kick on when needed but that is 217 didnt you say?. With both going they wouldnt run long at all which is good though. Im kinda **** about stuff like this. I fight myself on which way of doing it is best. A fan controller on the 2nd one sounds like an okay deal to me. Damn Im unsure

dont wire it to the other fan. do a controller with adjustible temp on off. other fan would kick it on at 217 which is a little high. and both fans kickin on at same time is a pretty big amp draw.
I recomend upgrading alts before this sway also. mine is off of a 98 full size dodge pickup. 136amps for $37.12 at jy
