the motors look a little too big to fit in there but with some trimming of the shroud they could fit..

 

Crap I went to the SY and got some parts I needed and completely forgot to poke around for some fan goodies

 

Does anyone know the actual CFM rate of stock XJ electric fans? and for both 96 and older, and for 97 and newer?

 

like 1700 for the old and 2200 for the newer i memory serves me right

it depends on how fast the engine is turning but i forget. Elec fan to replace mech fan is definatly one of my favorite mods so far. just dont for get to upgrade your alt also

if your going to do 2 stock fans make them both from a new xj. I would try to find a 16in import fan that is reasonibly flat. 16in fan will fit pretty tight into the stock mech fan shroud

 

I always heard to try and find the dual fan setup in a mid 90's Ford Taurus... supposedly those things suck birds out of the air. I considered doing this mod simply because when its warmer out, like recently, and im runnin at the norm temp of 210, I get to a stop light or do a sudden acceleration and the temp jumps up to like 215-220. It doesnt really go over that, but its still concerning to me. I still dont know if I want to do the mod though, not only because Im not exactly mech savy but also an electrical malfunction would cause my engine to burn up.. plus I dont know if there would be a serious amp draw on the alt. I dunno. Its driving me nuts

sure is. i do everything on the cheap. wife takes all the money so i cant spend anything on my jeep so build every thing and use what i have laying around. I had a 16in and a 14in elec fan from a 99 taurus laying around so i used the 16in. works awesome. jeep stays at 205 in 80 degree weather. guna but the 14in in my hood before to long

 

I have a buddy with a lot of VW stuff, and I know he has extra fans laying around. I'll have to go look at some of his junk lol. I've always wanted to cut up my stock hood to make it into a cowl type hood and install a small 10" or 12" fan in the cowl to force out hot air

 

You are talking about the taurus e-fan found in 91-95 tauruss with the 3.8. It is capable of 4400 cfm at high speed. It sounds like a freaking helicoptor also.

2 problems with that fan

1. it is flipping huge. i think it measures like 20in or something like the. I hangs down far below the radiator and buildin a shroud is kinda difficult. but if you arae guna run an after market tranny cooler it hangs below the radiator almost the perfect amount to tuck one in there

2. They have like a constant 50 amp draw. jeeps stock alt is 90 amps. 60% of your charging system just to run a fan is a ton. Worst part about it is when i bench test it it had an almost 100 amp start up draw. 100 amp is a ton, hard to find relays with that high of rating.

e-fan, you will stay super cool but i wasnt guna take the hit to my electrical system to run it.
