Default does 98xj have abs ?

Reason im asking is cuz it has the light on the dash so it should have it right? Its not on or anything but when i was driving on a gravel road and stopped hard the jeep just slid i didint feel any pulsing. So maybe my abs aint working?

Another thing is when i brake slowly i hear this tuck tuck tuck sound. Could it be the rear drums ?

Just because it has the light on the dash doesn't mean you have abs, quick way to tell if you do is if you have the 8.25 rear you won't have it. They use the same dash for all models, I have a 231 transfer case, no abs and I still have the spots on the dash for the abs light and the full time 4wd light. I also don't have cruise control, but I have that light as well.

Check the PDC under the hood. The legend shows a spot for the ABS relay. If you have the relay, you have ABS. If not, no ABS.

That may just tell him that someone removed the relay. I think a solid key would be to look at the front axle shafts and see if they have the ABS tone ring and electrical connector to the front knuckle. If you do, then it should have ABS. Whether it works or not .....

Just look for the abs pump in front of the master cylinder and booster. Or look for sensors on each wheel.
