Default Distributor Cap ticking

Anyone ever heard of this? The only other thread I found mentioned a loose dizzy shaft. It's rhythmic with the RPM and the clicking/tapping gets slightly louder when I rev it. No damage under the cap, but if I pull it off and there is play in it, what possible solutions are there? Does the shaft just get worn or are there bearings that can be replaced? The cap and rotor are new- I replaced them thinking the old ones just didn't align well anymore the ticking sound persists. Thanks for your help.

I know it isn't an arcing spark, checked it in the dark and verified spark from each plug, plus there's dilectric grease on all the contact points. That pulse ring... where is it and how will I know if it's hitting?

Could be a crack inside the cap you can't see.

Check the shaft for play. Take the cap off and see if you can jiggle the shaft.

The bearing on the shaft wears out. You can polish it up and it'll work better for a little bit, but eventually you'll have to replace the distributor.
