Default Differential fluid question?

I know this has been talked about a lot but I find all sorts of answers when searching.
I have a 97 Cherokee Auto with Chrysler rear end and not sure of the front. I want to replace the differential fluid but what type is recommended and how much goes in each?

Thanks!

and if you have limited slip (lsd) in the rear, you will need to add a friction modifier.

Be warned that the stuff smells awful and you will likely keep smelling it for a week after cus that smell seems to linger in the nose hair for way too long...

And also, if you have significant other, be prepared for her to gripe at you cause there is a nasty smelling dark ring around the top of the washing machine tub after you washed your clothes you were wearing that got diff fluid all over them during the process. Go ahead and run an empty load through the washing machine after your clothes are done, to try to eliminate that problem.

If I'm not mistaken the Chrysler 8.25 with a limited slip should take 75W-140 with friction modifier. Chances are you have a Dana 30 high pinion front axle. From what I remember that takes the 75W-90.

I have both of those axles in my XJ, freshly rebuilt both recently. I run Royal Purple 75W-140 with friction modifier in both and have had no issues.

Did my son's 2000, Just under 2qt ft, just over 2qt rear. I used Valvoline 85-140 (or something like that)

The lighter weight is fine, heavier is "suggested" for heavy duty app, such as towing, etc.

LP 30, 8&quart rear
