Default Did A/T filter now slips!

I put on a filter from Omix Ada "made in china" now it slips and kind of bangs when it catches. I've put in about 4 quarts ATF, level is tad bit over max. I made extra sure old gaskets came off with old filter and made sure new filter lined up before tightening it down. Called a tranny guy and he says the gasket or O-ring isn't sealing. I'm putting old filter back on tomorrow per his suggestion. Am I missing something or could the Omix filter be bad?

It's a 98' 4.0l, AW4

Grease your slip yoke and check your engine and transmission mounts. Then get back to us. Is the issue that its leaking/losing fluid or that it slips and bangs?

Motor mount's new. It slips and then hits and go's, never did it until right after I did the A/T filter.

And your transmission mount? Should have been replaced when you did the motor mounts. Make sure its all buttoned up.

The aw4 is electronically shifted, I hear you can manually shift it by unplugging the tcu and using the 1-2,3, and D settings. Maybe if that works for you? I'm not an expert so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Sounds like either low on fluid or gasket issue ...

What fluid did you put in after your filter change? Dex/Merc III or ATF+4??

Because some (not all to be fair) have trouble with ATF+4, I will not use it and I will not recommend it on the AW4 transmission.

This was my first thought as well. Dex/Merc III for me only.

I'll bet the filter/screen isn't fitting securely. Got your old one for comparison?

Going back to my shop to find the old one. I'm no tranny expert at all. If I install the old filter, can I run a bead of gasket maker instead of the fiber gasket to make sure the seal is perfect? I've got the "gear oil" RTV maker, which I was told to use on the pan. Also, does 3 1/2 qts sound correct?

Thanks, appreciate the feedback about the RTV. I did the fill and measure method and ended up a little north of full @ almost 4 qts.

Autoparts isnt open for an hour. Is it okay to use the gear oil rtv on the filter? The gaskets on the old filter gaskets were rock hard.
