I will soon have the dough for a injector swap(yes i'm that strapped for cash) however I am finding it very odd that my bone stock 97 XJ 4.0 AX15 with 103,300 miles was getting easily 420-440 miles every tank(20.2gal), and i'd fill up with maybe 3-4gals left! 95% of which was highway 60mi a day 6 days a week covering 8900mi over 6 months when I had a job.
I am new to the wench/XJ and this forum so any advice is more than welcome, I understand my driving is not typical at all for most of you but could the MPG differ that much?
I will also add i got my jeep from my sister who was the original owner and it was dealer serviced only.
thanks Michael

Anyways, welcome to the forum and don't ever hesitate to ask a question!
Thanks 96SportXJ, The dealer maintenance cost for this jeep was the sum an enterprising pimp might turn after tax season.
So when I go through with the injector swap would it be wise to go with better(running basic champions now) spark plugs for combustion aid of the better fuel "spit"?
You might say save the money, but currently an impossibly good rebate is being offered on these plugs so that they would cost me what I pay now for plain champions at the local auto store!
If any negative outcome exists from their use let me know, otherwise my sights are set.
I saw Metlic mention the E3 spark plugs and they seem like a good choice too.

No no no don't do anything other than Champion Copper plugs in your 97. Our engines like those the best and won't see any better performance with "performance" plugs. I hope I'm not too late in saying this and you have already purchased them. You can search around and read about spark plugs and the concensus is that Champion Coppers are best for 87-99s and NGK coppers are best for 00-01s.
I am a cheap bastard most of the time, so the only reason I was willing to try these fancy performance plugs was the fact they'd be the exact same price as the champ coppers( for a limited time only!!!), but looking around I see my 4.0 eats copper champs so that's what it will get.
Thanks again 96sportXJ

Even with a cracked fuel line after my injector swap, I was still getting 15mpg (which is what I got before the fuel leak and injector swap), so now that I've repaired the fuel leak, I'm definitely going to get better MPG. Can't wait to see how much better!

Just did my swap today, the throttle response gain is noticeable, hoping the fuel economy is there too. Pretty straight forward installation, I'm far from a newb mechanic but if you follow the steps that someone was kind enough to post,
anyone can do it.

There are a bunch of write ups on the fuel injector swap. I just did my 2001 XJ. Early models use the 703 and late models use the 784. Both are available from this guy for $24.99 apiece. There remans if you cant find them at a jy and plug and play. The electrical adapters are the difference. Call him first before you order ( his EBay store had some wrong info on years) and give him your year 4.0. Had mine all clean and shiny 4 days after ordering.

While you have the injectors out you might want to put on this heat shield. The 3/4" fits. #3 fuel injector is prone to fuel vapor lock when it gets hot but I did all six of mine.
