Man I know a lot about these injectors and I still get a headache reading all the specs and numbers so I can see where someone just looking into this might get dizzy. For '99+ XJs I'd strick with either the 784's or the dark green 789's. For pre-99's the 703's are by far the most wanted I guess because that's what people talk about the most. "Neon injectors". But from my personal experiments I've found the Ford 710 "yellow stick" ones work just as well.
That's the thing, I really don't care about a horesepower increase, at least if it doesn't cost me any MPG's, and I think that is what you are telling me. But what I am really interested in is trying to save some gas, even if that was at the cost of a little horsepower. Like I wrote before though, I was concerned with some of these injectos running lean. So I went back into the chart and then found an injector that would run the same as far as CFM as the stock injectors, but then after reading on I thought that someone said that the Ford injector didn't have the recess for the clip that is needed to hold the injector in jor something to that effect. Now you say that I won't see much or any of an MPG increse. Are you saying that I won't see an increse at all or I won't see an increse untill the computer resets?
- This is for everyone - you shouldn't see any change in MPG. What you gain from the swap is a smoother idle, quicker starting, and better throttle response.
More fuel is allowed to flow through the 703's/710's as well as the 784's/789's if you don't reset your ECU, causing you to run rich, and therefore decreasing your MPG.
- If you have a 89-98 XJ, you need the 703 Neon injectors, or you can get the 710 Ford injectors. If you have a 99-01, you need the 784 Neon injectors, or the 789 Ford injectors.
- I prefer the 703's/784's, but the Ford 710's/789's work too. I've had better results from the 784's I have now compared to the 789's I had before. That, and from what I've heard of other experiences, is why I prefer the Chrysler ones.
This really isn't that difficult. Programbo and I both have had quite a bit of experience with these things, he more than I. If we're both saying the same thing, please listen to it. Granted, we're not the ultimate guru's on this, but we do know what we're talking about.

Programbo, 98jeepsrt6 and No rdplz, thanks for your explinations, that completly answers my questoins that I was not getting from the chart or mass amounts of conflicting follow up material in the thread, greatly appreiciated. Money is really tight right now, and I have a 6 month old motor in my XJ that I guard with my life, so I just wanted to make damn sure that I am making the most safe, cost effective solution for the injector swap in my Jeep. Thanks again.

Snatched up some 703s from my buddy's scrap yard. Will have to install them and give my verdict. I also found 4 KC off road lamps while i was there that I installed on the bare front light bar of my JCR rack. Lastly snagged up an extra steel 5 spoke XJ wheel and mounted a 235 tire so I have a full size spare instead of a dounut.
I decided to go with injectors from Precision Auto Injectors. They are a good price and come all ready to go with new o rings and vacuum sealed. I cleared the adaptive memory and then started it. Even though the adaptive memory was basic when i started it, there was an extremely noticeable difference at idle. No rumbling and quieter when standing over the engine. I have no doubt that now I will not pull any codes now when I go in for emissions again.

I haven't read all of the replies yet, but be careful with your math. Seafoam in your fuel itself will increase your fuel economy to some degree (not likely the full 4.5 mpgs but some). It raises the octane as I understand it. It is REALLY noticeable in my motorcycle!

I've been running some Cadillac 0 280 155 923 injectors in my own XJ as an "upgrade" for the past few weeks and so far have been pleased with how they run compared to the 784's. They are pretty similar as far as flow and function and with my 99+ intake manifold and CAI they seem to be as quick and smooth running as the 784's. Cadillac uses a small square extension coming off the top of the injector which goes thru a slot in the fuel rail to hold it in place instead of a "clip-nut" but these injectors are slotted so the XJ clip-nut will work on them. Havent gone thru enough start cycles to bother doing a MPG test but just looking at my gauge they seem about the same on fuel as the 784's. Here's a photo of one.

Those are the ones you need. Usually the guys selling reman auto parts on Ebay are just going by what the dealer/factory specs say this or that part fits. There's probably 6-8 different things that will work in your 95 XJ but if you punch them up on a parts data base they will show not to be a fit.

Both Neon and Jeep injectors are high Z (impedance), 19lbs/hr injectors.
no XJ 4.0l injector or neon injector flows 19 lbs /hr (19#), it is commonly stated on the web that the renix injectors are 19# but when flow tested on a proper rig coas got 240cc@43.5 psi~22.5#
So maybe on the renix definitely not on the rest of the fuel injected XJ's.
Older Jeeps (not sure till what years) along with 95-99 model year neons ran an EV1, single hole injector. 00-05 Neons run on an EV6, four hole injector. All are rated at the same 19 lbs/hr.
95-97 neons had a 4 hole ev6 injector with a EV1/ jettronic electric plug 208 155 703 = the one you want for pre 99 Xj's.
My concern with those of you taking injectors out of 2nd Gen (00-05 neons), is the injector length. Yes, the plug is different, and that's an easy fix (just splice in new injector connector). But depending on which fuel rail/intake manifold combo you have on your Jeep, you may be setting yourself up for failure with the new, shorter, EV6 type injector from the 2nd Gen Neon.
Injectors have part numbers cast on to the side of them. Check the part number before you pull it out of the wreck if it is the right part number it will work. 280 155 784 for 99-01 XJ's.
That said, I've pulled some EV6 injectors out of a newer jeep. The injector was longer than Neon injectors; and to my surprise, it only had one hole.
All xj's have pintal (single hole) injectors.
So for those of us with older Jeeps (mine is a '89), be mindfull of the size of the new injector compared to your old one. It may not fit properly into the intake manifold if it's too short (and as stated before, you'll have to solder in an EV6 injector clip). Those of you with newer jeeps that already have EV6 injectors, you just have to worry about injector length with the neon injectors.
There is no reason to F@#k about with soldering injector clips just get the right EV6 injector, Ev6 injectors came with ev1 (280 155 703) and UScar (280 155 784) electrical clips. if you want to fine, its your heap, but please do not tell others they have to.
part numbers again! right part number = plug and play.
And I don't want to rant, but I'm also concerned about fuel pressure... 2nd Gen Neons run at a higher fuel pressure than older Jeeps. My ('89) Jeep runs at 31 psi. I believe my 2nd Gen Neons fuel pressure is something like 45 psi... Maybe even in the 50s. I'll look into it and report back.
neons run @49 psi.
Renix run at 39 psi @WOT
OBD1 run at 39 psi @WOT
OBD2 run at 49 psi constant.
pressuredifferences are ok with ev6 / 4 hole injectors, could not do it with 1 hole injectors.

today I pulled out 9 of the 784's from the JY for 25 bucks. I saw a bunch of them but I guess I was too lazy to get them. I bought a can of sea foam, I am putting them on sometime in the next few days
I will soon have the dough for a injector swap(yes i'm that strapped for cash) however I am finding it very odd that my bone stock 97 XJ 4.0 AX15 with 103,300 miles was getting easily 420-440 miles every tank(20.2gal), and i'd fill up with maybe 3-4gals left! 95% of which was highway 60mi a day 6 days a week covering 8900mi over 6 months when I had a job.
I am new to the wench/XJ and this forum so any advice is more than welcome, I understand my driving is not typical at all for most of you but could the MPG differ that much?
I will also add i got my jeep from my sister who was the original owner and it was dealer serviced only.
thanks Michael
