Haven't checked. Until today when it cut out it is like your turning off the key. No sputtering before it stops. So I have been thinking not fuel related but still on my mind that it could be that. Like I said today I was not paying attention cause it caught me off guard. Unfortunately when I did the 4 hole injector upgrade I put in a new Mopar fuel rail. Problem is it did not have the schrader valve to make checking easy like my old one. Almost did not use it but my '00 has the dampner on the rail, what people refer to has the flame thrower, and I would have been pissed if that crapped out down the road so I used it. While I try not to throw parts at the Jeep. I am justifying doing the CPS by thinking it is original and should be replaced anyway since the Jeep has 160K on the clock. LOL. If this does not fix the problem the next tool I will be buying is a fuel pressure gauge kit.

So today I replaced the CPS. Was not fun. Used the extensions and swivels like everybody said. By the way. The new bolts I ordered were the right ones and they are 11mm. Getting it out was not to bad. Getting back in was more difficult. Watch out for the plastic shield that is covering the hole in the bell housing to keep out crap. Don't want to lose that. I did top bolt first and then bottom for the removal. Reversed it for the install. I dropped the bracket for the tranny cable, 2 13mm bolts, but was not sure if it was necessary. Took a bit to get the CPS in position to be able to bolt up. But once I got it in there the holes for the bolts lined up. Getting up there was a pain to get the bolts started. The bottom hole was just out of reach coming up from underneath. Used a deep 11mm socket to get at it and was able to get the bolt in and started. For the top one I used my magnetic wand to get it in the hole. It stayed in there so I took the ratchet with the extension and tightened them up. Reconnected the tranny cable bracket. Plugged the CPS into the wiring harness and pushed both the O2 sensor, that moves out of the way pretty well once you pry the clip out of the bracket with your door tool, and CPS back in the bracket. The Jeep started. I let idle for a real long time and it did not die. Cautious to claim victory though. See what happens when I drive her around for awhile.

Drove it for about 10 miles in circles around the neighborhood. Then let it idle a bit more in the driveway. Has not cut out yet. The shield I mentioned before does not look like it is on properly. I did not lose it but it does not look quite right. Will see if I can stick my hand down there once it cools and double check. Do not want to lose that.

Drove it around the neighborhood in circles again yesterday for about 10 miles. So far so good.

I’m no different man. I’m technically minded and mechanically inclined and those traits help me through. I’m no where near any kind of expert on cars or Jeeps. I get a lot out of these forums and I treat myself like an open book, ready to learn. That’s why I’m pulling hard for you, I can almost imagine myself in boots. Cheers!

We all start somewhere. I've wrenched for many years.... but my XJ is my first Jeep... so there's a learning curve even for me.
The key is to be willing to trying take on mods/repairs yourself. And if it's something new to you, then research and ask questions first. Then have at it. .... it's the best way to learn. And fortunately, these older Jeeps are pretty easy to work on compared to a lot of other vehicles on the road.

So far so good. Been driving the Jeep to work without any issues. But I only live a 1/2 mile away. Actually go out of my way to and from work. I have these little routes worked out so that by the time I pull in the parking lot, or get home, the Jeep has reached operating temperature and the thermostat is just opening up. I firmly believe that driving a vehicle too little is worse then driving it too much. Did go food shopping Wednesday, probably a 15 mile round trip, and she behaved herself.

There are many things that I will do and some that I prefer to leave to more qualified people. Some things I have tackled. Researched it best I could and got it done. My dome light headliner I did not do. It was sagging when I bought the Jeep. I considered doing it but thought to myself I am going to drop about $60 in fabric and good 3M glue, go through all the trouble to get the old material off, put the new stuff on, do a crappy job, and then just get mad at myself. I have a guy, go to place in the area, who charged me $125 with me removing the headliner and bringing it to him. Now would I liked to have done it myself? Sure. Not only to save a couple bucks but also for bragging rights. Some things are just better off being done by the experts.

So I finally drove the Jeep a longer distance. About a 150 mile round trip making 2 stops. So I am going to think I solved my problem. Hope so to cause I have to get out to Long Island one of these years to pick up some 16" Icons I bought. Last thing I want to do get is get stranded down that way.

Thanks to all that chimed in.

Glad to see that it turned out well for you. I replaced the CPS in two of our jeeps this past summer. So I know the frustration of removing and replacing the sensor. But the members of the forum present a ton of experience and encouragement.
My daily driver, the '01 Sport, had the occasional stutter at highway speeds. Replacing the CPS has fixed that issue. I replaced the CPS in the '00 Limited as part of a sensor maintenance. My son took that vehicle back to school and I wanted to reduce the possibility of a break down.

Wasn't that bad actually. If it weren't colder that day, but it was warmer then usual for this time of year, it would have been better. My hands get cold real easy in even milder temps. I was just worried that was not the problem. I have no problem spending money to fix my Jeep. But I would like the problem to be fixed when I do. Replacing the CPS was kind of an educated guess. But not really seeing how the symptoms did not seem to match what I read. Of course being intermittent and seeming to be caused by thermal failure helped but made a proper diagnosis impossible.

So I was involved in a thread on another forum about possible CPS issues.
This guy Tony suggested that if you think the CPS is experiencing thermal failure when the Jeep stalls squirt the CPS with water.
If she comes back life pretty good bet that is the culprit.
He also happened to mention how that trick has gotten him off a trail a time or two so......
