Default 96 Cherokee ignition cuts on and off while driving

96 Cherokee ignition cuts on and off while driving took it to the shop for diognostic and no codes came up what could possibly be making this vehicle cut off? replaced fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor. Does not bog out just cuts off while driving....

I would check for proper fuel pressure at the test port on your fuel rail. You can still be getting fuel but, if it isn't getting the proper amount of fuel pressure from a dying fuel pump it can cause this problem. You should also test your Crank Position Sensor (CPS). There is actually another electronic componant inside your distributor under the rotor which can cause ignition problems. If you've had your XJ for a few years or more and have never replaced the fuel pump, it's about time. We replaced the fuel pumps in my 91 and my son's 87 within 2 years of owning both....and, trust me, when the fuel pump dies it starts cutting out mostly when pulling hills, then dying while at idle, then it just ****s altogether and won't start. I hope this helps you.
