cranks but won't start
I'm having some issues with my 91 Cherokee, 4.0, 4x4. I've been trouble shooting for weeks now. Was running fine and parked it and now it won't start. 1st thing I did was change the spark plugs. Then checked rotor & cap, very worn, so changed them. Still cranks, I hear the fuel pump, but won't start. I talked with a mechanic friend and he said most likely the Crankshaft Position Sensor. I bought one and then saw how to test the old one with a volt meter. Did that and it looks like the sensor tests ok. Bought a spark plug tester but being I live way up in the mountains by my self, I have no one to turn the ignition and watch the tester. So can't see if the spark plugs are getting spark. Is there anyway to crank the engine from the front without the ignition. In my old trucks, I could jump the solenoid and start it.
I also saw on u tube how to check for codes with "check engine light". I have codes 12, 35 and then 55 to end. 12 is battery and 35 is open fan circuit which I know is open. Switch won't work.
Also read to disconnect the neg battery lead for 15 minutes. Did that and still won't start.
My next step is to open the fuel line on end of fuel pump to see if its pumping gas. I hear it when I turn on the key but only a short sound and not like it usually sounds.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome!
Now....
STOP. BUYING. PARTS.
Do the basic testing.
Do you have spark?
Do you have correct fuel pressure?

I watched a u tube video and he showed how to use a volt meter on resistance to test the plug. Three prongs on my connector. He showed testing B & C with a volt meter on resistance. I tried it with the key on & off. No open sensor.
Plus I do not have a code for the sensor or ECM. I have codes # 12, 35 & 55.
I finally put the plug tester on and used my camera to see if I was getting spark. Apparently I am not getting spark. No lights in the tester.
So I may have to bite the bullet and have it towed down the hill to a mechanic. Only other thing is the distributor its self or coil?????

I apparently do not have spark after my test today. Did a video on my camera of the plug tester, no lights in tester????? Only thing I can think of now is the distributor its self or coil????
I looked at my video again and I noticed a small blip of light on the tester. I tested it again and I turned it over for a minute or so. I did see some spark, very very weak continual light with one small flash. Can barely see the light in the tester. So Its not getting ENOUGH spark. Distributor or coil???????

Not likely the distributor. Very likely the cap, rotor, and wires. When was the last time they were changed? They are consumable items. Like changing your oil, there's a recommended service interval. Don't change em, bad things happen.
Could also be the coil. Check your grounds.

1'st thing I changed was the plugs, rotor, & cap. I opened it and it is the original 91 and is rusty and filthy. Wires look good, changed not to long ago.
I'll have to look into how to check the ground. I did order a new distributor. Won't hurt since its in such bad shape. Thanks for the reply.
