Crank No Start No Spark after Engine Bay Wash
I made the mistake of hosing down the engine bay of my 99 XJ yesterday and I could not get it to start after that. It turns over fine. I waited till today morning and started up just fine but i saw a little bit of smoke coming from the harness close to CPS connector. I then drove it around for a bit and did not skip a beat. I then parked it and tried starting it again and it would not start. I went ahead and bought another CPS as well as TPS and put it in. It started fine and then I shut it off. Tried starting it again, It hesitated to start but it started up and ran OK. I then shut it down and tried starting it again and it would not start just cranked over. Checked for spark and I had none. I do not want to take it to a shop as i don't trust them. I would really appreciate any ideas. I have got the 4.0 4WD Automatic with 260K Miles.

An internet poll isn't going to be much better.
You need to check MIL codes, fuses, relays, and start testing the ignition system systematically from beginning to end (or end to beginning-- don't think it makes too much difference).

Most likely the problem is not the components, but the old wiring/ connections. Try taking a blow dryer and spend some time drying out the wiring harness

Ended up folding and took the xj to a mechanic. He said that the CPS was sending a signal to the computer but the computer was not sending a signal to the ignition coil. He apparently took the computer apart and put it in a de-froster/dehumidifier and it fixed the computer up. Then he checked spark and apparently my ignition coil was weak to he put a new one in. All in it $540 - 200 for diagnosis, 200 for fixing the computer and 100 for the coil. Now did i get ripped off or does it sound genuine enough?
