Default Cracked transmission on cooling line fitting

new to the forums, my transmission on my 96 Jeep is cracked where the cooling line fitting screws on and it just leaks all the fluid quick. Has anyone had this problem, is there any fixes ? I really don’t want to drop a new tranny in an I want to be able to drive it again

Is the broken off chunk anywhere to be found?

You're gonna have to get creative here. I've never seen this failure before. Some miracle stuff like JB Weld or the like?
It's gonna have to be CLEAN though.

Anybody tell if that's the pressure line or the return line?

Good point. I wonder how much pressure is there.

Also, how did it break in the first place?

I noticed the leak out on a trail, it wasn’t nothing extreme, I had put jb weld and it slowed it down, but it just leaks threw.

Anything you use, that area must be very clean. Not trail dirty and oily.

I spent a full day cleaning it up, and let it dry a full day, I even tried scratching the surface to see if it’d get a better bond.

Actually, there's not a lot of hope for it. IIRC, there's about 40 psi pressure coming out of the torque converter at that fitting. The fitting itself is straight thread and seals off on the flat area on top of the case. When the fitting broke out, it took all the thread that hold it in with it and destroyed the sealing surface. The only way I can see it being fixed is to drill and tap that hole to accept a taper pipe fitting, but that will need to have the transmission taken apart to keep chips from getting into the converter and pressure passages. You could make an aluminum fitting with longer threads to match what's left of the threads, but it won't seal and would need to be welded in. Welding cast aluminum can be done, but it requires special skills (TIG) and will never be as strong as it was.

In my opinion, getting it back on the road quickly is going to require another transmission.

Ya I couldn’t find anyone who can TIG weld in my area, I’ll try to jb weld again before putting a new tranny in, thanks for the help

Maybe try this. Guy on another forum told me "I fixed a Caterpillar engine block with this about 30 years ago. Engine still runs today. I haven't met anything this won't stick to."

If you haven't tried it, use brake parts cleaner to clean the area. That stuff does a fantastic job at thoroughly cleaning an area.
