why not look into a ford 8.8 its pretty strong axle and with some decent axle shafts it will easily hold up to 35s and probably bigger im running 38s on an 8.8 in my f150 never no problems and you can disk brakes

Nope. D60's aren't either though. If you are looking bolt in, either look for a 96 and up 8.25 (29 spline) or a d44 from an 87 (really hard to find though). The 8.8 is just a matter of welding on spring perches and shock mounts and you might have to change the pinion yoke. Not too hard really if you have access to a welder or someone who knows how to weld that has one.

29 spline came in 96 and up. 95 and down were 27 spline axles (not as strong). If you have a 27 spline, you can change carriers and axle shafts to 29 spline units and keep your housing though. Probably cheaper that way.

i have a ford 8.8 in mine. all i had to do is spring perches. the bolts on my rear shocks broke off, so i just drilled holes strait through floor (pull carpet up first) and nut and bolted them on. another good thing is disc brakes on 8.8. (explorer)

If you're sold on D60s, I highly recommend you pick up a DP front D60 out of a Ford pickup or van. You get a high pinion diff and the diff is on the driver's side correct for your XJ.
