ok. i know what the coolant sensor is, but is it bad? my check engine light is not on. just running rich. i figured it would make sense that it is bad, because it would act like its always trying to warm up, and constantly feed the engine more gas than normal while im driving.

Running rich will ruin your cat.

thats ok. its already rattling around inside and needs to be replaced. im just tired of not getting the good mileage i used to. i started smelling a real strong gas smell that would burn my nose, and my mileage went from about 20 mpg to 14 or 15. then i got that code 22.

Code 23. The intake manifold airtemperature sensor, or MAT sensor is mounted on the intake manifold and provides the PCM with intake air temperature information. The sensor is a temperature dependent resistor. As the temperature of the air rises, the sensor resistance drops and as the temperature of the air drops, the sensor resistance rises.

I'd replace that sensor.

sounds like you need to verify the integrity of the wires going from the sensor to the ecm/pcm, you may just be dealing with a frayed or broken wire somewhere along the way
