Default Climate control switch won't slide all the way COLD

90'xj. The climate control switch won't slide all the way over to the cold (left) position. It feels like the cable gets gets jammed or runs out. I'm not sure where the cable leads, i was thinking to check that out.

Any ideas what would normally cause the lever to not slide all the way over? I would imagine its the cable and the mechanism it attaches to. Does the cable track down somewhere under the dash?

not sure where it tracks to but you may want to start with just pulling off the dash plate and looking at the unit itself. Something could be blocking it.

I forgot to say have you tried gently pounding on it to see if you can jog anything in the unit?

Lead to the heater control valve under the hood. (diverts water to the heater core) Have someone watch it while it gets more back and forth.

The control valve is vacuum controlled.
The cable on mine leads to the blend door on the heater box. There may be a cover over the bottom of the box but on mine you can see the cable if you look under the dash on the passenger side. I is on the bottom beside the console.

Either the cable or the internal flapper door in the heater box is binding.

Default Climate Control will not slide through full range of settings.

I'm working on a '96 Cherokee at the moment, with the exact problem the OP has pictured. Climate Control will not extend the full range and gets stuck in the exact same position as the photo above. It will not move to the coldest setting. I currently have the climate control unit out and I can move the cable by hand under the passenger side dash but I still can't see why it's not moving those last few inches.

The old climate control unit was broken in several places but the newer one I picked up functions fine, yet the cable issue persists. The cable adjustment under the glove box where I can move it by hand is extended all the way to the end so I can't loosen the cable at all, I would only be able to tighten it further at that spot. I'd really love to not have to remove the rest of the dash and glove box to fix this. Any suggestions or anyone else that has fixed this problem? Simple kink maybe?
