does anyone know what has to be done to change from a auto to a 5 speed???? plox let me know before i buy the donor vehicle lol

 

im doing reserch. and all the donors i can find are the 2.5L 4 cyl and i have th 4.0 6 cyl.. does this matter?

 

You need to buy an ax-15 trany,you will only find it in late 89 and newer xjs with the 4.0 engine.
You cannot use an older peugeot ba/10 because the spline count is 21,your xfercase is input is 23 spline.
You also need the pcm fromn the donor,and auto and manual are not the same.

 

ok, your talkin bout doin tranny swaps and stuff. so i should ask
i wanna do the same. i have 2 jeeps, both are the 2.8 V6 but one auto and one 5 speed. the 5 speed has a 207 AM 1 xfercase. would they line up if i made the auto the manual?
and also, wat xfercases can i use on my auto. idk wat the tranny is, so, there, im stuck

 

i wanna do this also! i have a 4.0L. do the tranny holes line up? i figure ill need a new pedal unit with the third petal. and i guess i have to check and see if there are factory provisions for master cylinder placement! anyone have ideas???

What year are they?if they are both 85-87 then it is fine,both should be 207s and 21 spline. The manual is an ax-5

 

yea the auto is a 85 but i took off a 289 that was 21 spline, but i have another guy give me a tcase, a 231 J, but it wouldnt fit. im wonderin if there is an adapter of some sort or somethin i can do to make it work.
the manual i believe, i havent counted yet, but looks bigger than the 21. its an '86

 

i think im just going to buy the 5 speed donor and switch everything to the donor and skip all the trouble. the donor im looking at is accualy a year newer than mine.. altho it has 40k more miles and cracked winsheild i think it'll be ok haha
