Default Carpet Question

My carpet in my Jeep is in good shape, just a bit dirty and not my color choice. It's tan now, and I want to change it too black or dark grey...what would be my best option, dye or replace? I was pricing them online and holy smoke their like $300! Has anyone succesfully used alternative methods and done well...for less? I'm not a cheapskate when it comes to doing things right, believe me...but I could carpet half my house for that price...lol

Get it cleaned really really well before dying the carpet.

So should I dye using a can or soaking it?

I would just take it out and bead line it.. But that is just me. If I wanted a different color I would check the junk yards you might find the color you want and it might be really cheap. Were I go $20. Picked one up for a friend and it looked brand new. Jeep was rear ended.

Most of the time you have to get lucky with a JY carpet. If it sits for any length of time it will undoubtedly become unusable. Plus it is a good amount of work to extract it so definitely go to a pull and pay yard...

Also for the new carpet price... You have to keep in mind that automotive carpet is a different pile than house carpet, it has to be molded to the shape of the car, extra stitching and things like a heel plate and the jute are added and shipping the monstrosity isn't cheap.

Weigh the costs...

I read where the aerosol dyes can make the carpet feel stiff/brittle after use.. and the RIT is a cheaper alternative. Those are the two factors that swayed my decision.
