Default Can I Swap These ECUs?

The computer on the left is from a 1996 XJ and the one one the right is from a 1998 XJ. Can they be swapped to troubleshoot a no-spark problem. Thanks

You can try. If it's just to check for spark it probably is worth a shot.

Thanks PatHenry. I did not want to plug it in and potentially have two bad computers.

I did swap the ECUs to troubleshoot my no-spark problem, no joy. When It get this problem fixed, I will do the swap again to see if this is a valid test.

What all have you checked, and what all have you done, before swapping the PCM?

This post is related to my other post

After lift DW + CEL + GEN + No spark = ???

. I wanted this one separate, in case it resulted in an informative discussion.

It may or may not work... I'd lean towards "not".... as the flash on the ECU or PCM which every you call it (same part)... is flashed directly to/using the VIN of that that specific Jeep. The odds of getting another one to work without flashing it to that VIN are probably slim to none (and have it work correctly). Just sayin. And a reflash isn't cheap either. I'd rule everything else out before messing with the ECU/PCM module. Just my 2 cents.

Understood. I was simply hoping that the swap would produce ignition.
