Default Broken T-Case

During the winter I attempted to put my jeep in 4wheel and heard a very loud grinding noise when I accelerated. Ever since, I have heard the sound of metal grinding underneath my seat. Being stubborn and shrugging it off until now I looked under there today to find the T-case with 2 gaping holes in it, exposing the chain. Was just wondering if it would be possible to temporaraily remove the chain connecting the two drive shafts in order to drive without the grinding sound I hear when the loose chain is spinning against the holes? I dont really have the means to replace the t-case at the moment...suggestions are appreciated. thanks.
