ya just tap it in with a hammer.... WAY easier putting a fresh one in than removing a rusty one

So get a new u-joint then? And then all I need to do is tap it in? Sweet..

its toast .. well it is now .. (all parts were 1 whole piece from used parts place, didnt fit my 90 .. was sold that it may be the vac disco left side .. long story)

most of the cylinder bearings were black, fell all over the place

I sent that old joint for sizing it at store, so he can get a new one easier especially since i was sold wrong ones last month doing my 93 .. I had the press kit rented so popped it all the way apart, cleaned it up, it wasnt too froze .. my 93 drivers side, popped apart loud

heres a link for replacing
http://www.myjeepxj.com/cherokee-rep...nt-replacement

Just be careful with cylinder bearings within caps, that they dont fall out, all the caps need to be pulled off joint for install, to fit between yokes

to start: i think I hand pressed 1 cap, outside of yoke .. then held the joint tight in cap within yoke & tapped it in lightly , to keep bearings from falling out

read that thread on link .. reinstall is easy

they will bind up a bit, when almost done .. the 2nd c-clip (on each side) should have barely enough room to get it on groove on joint

for fine tuning that: find a big bolt to use a pushrod .. center the bolt on outer joint cap, tap bolt with hammer, so you move the cap, not hit whole axle part

when you get both c-clips in on a side, may take a couple light hammer strikes on outer caps to un-bind it .. you'll get it .. easy !

make sure you get clip on the intended groove, the most outer / they hug inner yoke (obvious) .. there is usually a groove for the rubber bushing on joint also, dont clip on that

While washing my Jeep, I noticed one of the ends of the ujoint on the axle shaft I just installed was sticking out. I hammered it in a bit, and this is how it looks now. One of my friends said my ball joints looks bad. Thoughts?

That axle part work OK? please tell me yes , been wondering if all our "thread" advice was correct

lift wheel off ground .. use wheel to check balljoint for play .. up / down .. side to side ..

my balljoint had the slightest play on knuckle, moving by hand .. put tire back on .. scared me .. moved alot visually .. when unlifting that side .. could see whole assy move when tire touched ground .. scary

I replaced it quick

MAKE SURE .. you got that inner clip for u-joint on right slot .. should hug axle shaft tight .. its very easy to attach it to the slot meant for u-joint bushing ,, 2nd clip on each side, should be a bit tough to get on .. double check those .. Ive checked mine 10 times, since i dont really wanna redo those anytime soon

I'm looking into upgrading my axle shafts so I can prevent them from breaking as easily as they have in the past. I looked into chromoly shafts, and they're like $600. I was wondering how strong this is compared to stock. I'd be fine with anything stronger than stock, honestly.

Do both of these links include both the driver and passenger side?

Sorry for no response! Since I haven't posted since that, nothing fell off! haha I'm still hearing a little noise when braking and turning.. but I'll figure it out soon. Maybe have the u joint properly pressed rather than a friend installing it with a hammer.. heh.

For one of the links, is it $103 or $160 for each side? Or are just the driver side stub $103? I don't really want to drop $500+ right now. Are there any other solutions out their that are better than stock but still decently priced?

you're only running 33's? go to the junk yard, get some 297 axle shafts, buy spicer 760x ujoints, install full circle snap rings. run it. cost me $150

Yeah. I'm debating on going to 35s when I need new tires.. I'd either regear/modify my d30/8.25, or just swap axles. Haven't decided yet. I like how much room I have with 33s at 6.5, but 35s look better at this height. I do like that idea though.

Since I am running 33s and a front locker.. would these be nice to have at all?

Will I need an upgraded axle shaft if I'm getting stronger u joints? I wouldn't mind carrying some u joints and a press on the trail, but I think I might need a replacement set of axle shafts too, since the yoke broke last time.
