Hey everybody,
I just wanted to know if anyone ran these in their 4.0. I have a good buddy whose been a mechanic for 30 yrs and told me I should try them.

Right now, I run champion RC12LYC's and havent had any trouble. Just wonderin if anyone has had luck with these.

Either stay with the Champions if you're happy with them, or go with NGK Iridium plugs.

Have you had any benefits over the champions to the ngk? I can get the boschs at a discount.

If they are both iradiums then I think i might try the bosch.

That's a great answer Fred.

Beats arguing with folks about it.

I HATE Bosch plugs. There isn't any one brand of plug that has caused me more grief, ever.

NEVER had an NGK fail on me.

Both copper and just fine for an old Cherokee, gap @ .035" & change every 30k. The platinum plugs are good for at least 75k, not better but they last longer.

And platinum plugs require MORE voltage to fire than conventional copper plugs.

Am I correct in assuming that you mean that as a negative? Are you recommending to just stick with coppers? I will be changing mine out soon and curious to hear more about this.

I'm a fan of ngk plugs. I used the same champions you have and roughly 12k miles into their service life they were toast. with the being said, the only brand that has ever given me a bad plug out of the box is ngk. I spent hours tracking a misfire on one of my ls1 cars and passed off the plug bc hey it's a ngk. dumb

have you given any thought to which motor oil is best for your jeep ?

I run NGK Iridiums with the factory coil and wires. I have never had a misfire or skip. Plenty of power. Wouldn't use anything else.

I can't speak for iridium plugs but those who make blanket statements about platinum plugs not doing well in our 4.0s simply don't know what they are talking about. This is never ending.

I have a pure stock '93 with no special ignition components and have run Bosch platinum plugs for 7 of the 9 years I've owned it. If the platinums require higher voltage to fire efficiently, the stock system obviously supplies it. I tried the coppers for 2 years and can tell you that all they did was wear out with a massive gap and decreasing MPG. Did prove one thing: setting the gap to precisely .035 is not that big of a deal for our 4.0s.

The sheer hatred that some have for the platinum plugs is obviously some sort of social thing. I'm not sure who it was but one senior forum member stated at one point that he didn't want plugs that lasted 100,000 miles. Huh?!?! Yet another good reason not to run the platinum plugs!

I should save this.

A)Trip to California from Arizona in a Honda CRX. O2 sensor fault with a slight miss.

Replaced O2 sensor. Still getting a CEL. Change out brand new Bosch Platimums and problem solved.

B) Datsun 260Z on a chassis dyno at a local college. Ran Bosch Platinum Plus 4s back to back with Champions. Gained 28 RWHP with Champions over the Platinums.

C) 1979 Alfa Romeo Spider with mechanical fuel injection. Special tuning required. I am one of the only folks in Northern Arizona who can do this.

Fought poor performance and idle with a perfect fuel management system tune. Ditched Bosch Platinums for standard NGKs and the car ran perfect, with no adjustments needed.

That's why I hate those gimmicky Bosch plugs. For crying out loud, some German car manufacturers even specify NGK.

Is this a hate crime? Am I a spark plug racist? Not hardly.
