Default Bolt broke on track bar on axle side.

So I pulled off the bolt to check the bushings. Attempting to put the bolt back on at 74 foot lbs, the bolt snapped in half and wasn't even at 60 foot lbs yet. Got a new 10.9 bolt and now am afraid to try torquing it again.

10.9 should be good for 74 plus lots more. I dont know the exact max psi but i'll look around. Are you using a torque wrench?...Tj

EDIT: just checked on google and found this "Grade 8 min tensile strenght is 150K PSI and 10.9 is 142.2K"

a 10.9 is the metric equivalent to a SAE grade 8. You are good up to 150 ftlbs (if not more) i believe.
the track bar is suppose to be torqued down to

Track Bar
Ball Stud Nut.............. 81 N·m (60 ft. lbs.)
AxleBracketBolt .........100N·m(74ft.lbs.)

***** 60ft/lbs seems high for a ball joint. I thought those were 35ft/lbs...

I did use a torque wrench. Maybe the new bolt will hold.

the old bolt broke because it stretched. I don't know how many track bar bolts i've taken out that are really thin in the middle

X2 if it broke near 60 then its was gonna break at the wrong time. Good thing you caught it now then when you were on the road.

Yeah, mine broke On the I-10 on my way home from work one evening. That was fun trying to get to the side of the road. Luckily I only suffered a bent control arm.

I have just replaced the bushing on the track bar.

I'm double checking the torque speck for the axle bracket bolt on the track bar at 74ft/lbs . My bolt has the factory installed nut and the nut has the tab welded to it. the nut looks thin for a nut that needs to be torqued to 74ft/lbs.

I'm thinking I'll be replacing the nut to achieve that high a spec.

So, is 74 the correct spec?

Usually the hole in the axle side is wobbled out as well. With a new grade 10 nut AND BOLT, I don't see why you cant tighten it to even more than the 74 ft/lbs, I did, ..74 is for the factory nut and bold which are inadequate IMO.
Couple lock washers on there never hurt either.
