Default Boatside rockers?

So as you guys may remember, my rockers are pretty rough. I patched em up last fall to get a sticker, but I wanna do something with them. Rather then buying replacements, I'm thinking about doing the boatsides I've been seeing. I'm just trying to get a handle on it. Basically you gut out the entire rockers and then just weld in some sheet metal from door sill to frame at a 45ish degree angle? Also, is this legal?

Thanks as always

id rethink boatsides, reason being is theyre insanely heavy, and ive never seen anyone with a xj on the trail who would benefit from them. just cut out the stock rusted rockers, and weld some 2x2 or 2x3 in, and tie it in in a few places. best matched up with some frame stiffeners. for the rear quarters, you need to slice the bottom, fold them up, then reweld them.

2x2 would have your doors sticking out about 2"

2x4 or wider imo

what about just welding sheet metal at an angle instead of the boxed steel? I realize that the boxed steel would act as protection / sliders as well, but i'm thinking of cost (I cannot easily come by steel)

you know you can order replacement sheet metal rockers right? They run about 100 per side.
