hey I am new to jeeps and im lost at what happens to my jeep.
It has 4.0L HO and for some reason ill fill the radiator full of water/antifreeze and it seems like every week I have to pull over and put more in it. It will go to 250degrees but after I open the radiator cap and add more its fine for awhile. IDK whats going on need help or advice please!

Don't open your radiator cap while its HOT it will shoot out. Its suposed to. Its under pressure.

Something in your cooling system isn't working right. I would start by flushing it out and checking for blockages in the hoses. If a good flush doesn't help. Id go for the full over haul. New pump, thermostat, hoses, rad cap and at least a good flushing of the rad itself if it doesn't leak.

Seems like you have a Leak for sure. Double check your fan is working and then let the engine run while you look over to see where the leak is coming from.

Is your overflow bottle filling when you turn the engine off and then sucking back into the radiator as it cools?

Why are you opening the radiator cap when the engine is hot?

Like others have mentioned. You NEVER want to remove the radiator cap when it's hot! Of course it will want to spray out and you will lose a lot of coolant that way. The worse thing that can happen would be that it will spray you with hot coolant. Always let it cool down before you pull the cap. I'm not trying to make you look stupid or anything like that. I'm just thinking of your safety.

WHAT ??? It doesn't take any longer to check it before you start it. Actually it will take longer to wait for it to warm up then check it. I don't understand your logic on waiting for it to heat up letting all the coolant blow out and wonder where it went?????????

Check your oil like other have said.. and if it you really need to add more coolant when it is hot add it to the overflow bottle, it isn't pressurized

Look for leaks in all possible locations. Can you smell coolant at all when you're driving, or when you turn the heater on? It could be leaking from heater core, radiator, bad freeze plugs, etc

I've literally went through the whole cooling system. Check t-stat housing gasket, all your hose clamps if you've removed any hoses. Check your water pump. Also another big deal I had after it over heated once it broke some of the oxidation up in the block an clogged my radiator. Flush the whole system til it's clear. Fill with water run til it gets to operating temperature drain and do it all over about 3 times you should be good. Oh and sometimes your heater control valve cracks because they're plastic and brittle. I've went through three of those. Post 97 model cherokee 4.0
