Returning to CF and seeing this thread, on top of the list, being where it was left weeks ago....its almost as bad as a ground-hog day waking up to a song of REM.

Hey I'll be coming up to State College next friday with the XJ for my wife's driving test!
How awesome is it that the nearest place to test before may 27th is 2 hours and 45 minutes away?
So....awesome...
If it snows or something else goes wrong I'm going to kill somebody. She's ready for the test, but she needs it... I just got an awesome new job and can't carpool anymore.

It is only a two man job if the other guy has to hold your beer. Lay your tools where you will be able to reach them with one hand, lay on ground under and slightly too side of where you are working and don't forget goggles or face mask use 2 hands to align heat shield, hold heat shield in place with 1 hand and pickup the hanger bracket with other hand and line up the holes. push into unirail with 1 hand and grab bolt, gently insert bolt into hole and spin clockwise until you get thread engagement, finger tighten until you are sure it won't fall out under force of gravity, grab second bolt with 1 hand and follow same procedure as first bolt, now tighten both bolts with fingers until they become difficult, now both hands should be free to pick up ratchet with extension and socket already mounted, tighten both bolts more or less evenly so bracket tightens flush with heat shield and unirail and you don't pinch either bolt with heat shield or bracket. Do not use a breaker bar to reinstall the bolts.
I am just afraid I will not be able to rethread that bolt, since it's got so much torque as I remove it. I don't want to have the XJ at the dealer for 2 weeks now that it's snow time. I will drive the winter with the coat hanger.

Can't install new nutstrips if my bumper is permanently rusted in place! Plus, I don't want to make this a $50 repair when a $0 coat hanger works just as well.
Great directions!! But, they are wrong. I need a 3 hands 1) hold the brackets, and 2) spin the bolt, and 3) pinch the nut strip to stabilize it.

Step 2) Buy new bolts for a few bucks at the hardware store
Step 3) Remove bolts from the hanger, and be able to hold the nut strips/replace if the bolts break
Step 4) If you do take it to a shop, don't take it to the dealer. You'll pay way too much.
