I'm willing to spend more money if you get better quality, I just have no knowledge on lighting. I'd rather not get taken for a ride on some crappy lights!

If you are willing to spend more then go with the Hella housings. that's just my thought.

Absolutely!!! I run em. I've had Cibie, Hella, Marchal etc over the years. I see no real issue with the Autopal E-codes.

They are not the E-Codes, they are the DOT approved lenses. The only difference in the Hella units is the lens. The E-codes give you better visibility to your left as you drive along. These are the Hella units that have been reboxed by autopal. These are the same ones that I run and I paid $110 for the pair, so yes I would say they are worth it even if the price was only for one housing.

before winter.
Getting laid off from my primary job means the second job leaves not much extra cash for goodies. 40 bucks is a lot when you dont have it

I can relate to that, been a union sheetmetal worker for 15 years. I've seen some slow times. Half the reason I drive old vehicles with no payments! I make a good living but at any moment it can dry up!

@bass: thanks for the info, that's what I wanted to hear. I'm looking forward to getting the harness and the housings installed. I'm lucky enough to have excellent night vision and didn't realize how bad my headlight are till I rode with a buddy after he installed HID's in his truck.

Hella has other E-codes, too, though I'm not sure what the difference might be. I have the Hella 003427011, bought everything from Amazon.
the headlight....
Amazon Amazon

the putco harness....
Amazon.com: Putco 230004HW Premium Automotive Lighting Wiring H4 100W Heavy Duty Harness and Relay: Automotive Amazon.com: Putco 230004HW Premium Automotive Lighting Wiring H4 100W Heavy Duty Harness and Relay: Automotive

and PIAA bulbs....
Amazon.com: PIAA 15224 H4 Style Xtreme White 12V 60/55=110/100-Watt Bulb - Twin Pack: Automotive Amazon.com: PIAA 15224 H4 Style Xtreme White 12V 60/55=110/100-Watt Bulb - Twin Pack: Automotive

EDIT: in looking at the Hella catalog, I think the only diff between the 3427011 and the 3427811, is that the 7811 is TWO headlamps plus bulbs, whereas the 7011 is sold as a single unit without the bulb. Both are parabolic reflector E-codes. Amazon still has the 7811 kit at a cheaper price.

Nice deal on that harness from Amazon.

I think what ill do is pop in that putco harness, possibly when i do my tune-up, and then get H4 bulbs later, as it would be a considerably smaller chunk of change.

Thing is, are the SilverStar sealed bulbs any good? i think they run 25 bucks a pop, but at that price its about 50% of the H4 upgrade... Kinda a waste if it would just be a hold-over until i get the H4 ones.

It was 45$ for my housings shipped and I got my h4 bulbs for 7$ a piece, so those silver stars won't save ya as much money as you think.

I'm doing the whole conversion, harness and all for just shy of 90$
