Default Best way to mount a class 3 hitch

I just picked up a class 3 trailer hitch and was wondering what the best and safest way to mount it with (Hardware) Thanks, Tj

it should have come with hardware.but it should be bolted to the bottom of the frame rails.you will need to remove the rear bumper to get the bolts inside the rear frame rail.hope this helps.

not as simple as running nuts and bolts through the frame.

the xj rails arent that thick, and could pull the nuts right through if you don't spread the load over a greater surface area.

I would use nutstrips. its basically a long plate with nuts attatched/welded to it. can be found in junkyard xj's with factory rear hitches and skid plates. another i have seen is bolts coming in from the top with large square plates welded to the bolthead. this spreads the load as well as keeps the bolt from turning inside the framerail.

FYI, the stock strip are a little weak, at least in appearance. You could fab some pretty easy. This is something I came up with to help support my rear bumper, but it could easily be adapted to other uses. HTH!!

nice work on those strips^. How for do they extend out of the unibody? and did you bend that your self or buy like that?

That started life out as 2"x5"x3/16" tubing, and I cut it to that shape. They stick approx. 2.5".
