Earlier Problem
Well I finally found my problem. It is the flex plate. The bolts had loosened and elongated the holes where it bolts to the tourque conveter. So now I have to drop the tranny and replace the flex plate but at least I know what the problem is...and it's not a rod. Thanks to everyone for their help.

If it had already developed into a knock, then you will probably find more damage to the flexplate than you expect. I knew mine was cracked because I could see them through the inspection plate on the trans. After pulling the trans to replace the flexplate I found complete and total seperation around the bolts that hold it the crank.
