I think so.

Go fix your oil leak.

Default Stuck

Ok guys,

I'm having some problems. My car will not crank for jack. I'm not sure if its my battery or my starter. I was sitting in a parking lot over night and was towed home this morning. Now here's whats going on. I have lights, they are not dim, my radio works no weird lights coming up in the dash or anything. When I put my key in the ignition and turn so the radio comes on I can hear it charge up, that's the only way I can describe the sound. Then when I go to crank I get nothing. No sound or anything. Now yesterday when it died and I initially went to go crank it up there was a click sound but now nothing. I have a battery charger and it gave me some mix signals. It took a few hours to fully charge but when the green light came on(when it's done it turns green) it stil flashed a red light. And I tried to crank and nothing. I have limited resources and I was wondering if I should start with a battery or starter? And I have cleaned my connectors and nothing is frayed.

Your first course of action should be to have the battery tested. Some of the local auto parts stores will test it for free. Pull the battery out, take it down to O'Reilladvanceautozonequest and test it. If it's bad, buy another.

If the battery isn't your problem, try this thread. I've been lucky not to have to deal with a failed NSS, but apparently that's a common cause of your symptoms.

I just read Serious's post in your other thread. You know, the one cruiser merged with this one. Try his advice. Smack that **** with a hammer.

When I was a teenager I had a Triumph TR6 that had a bad starter. I carried a ball peen hammer in the passenger footwell for several weeks until I could replace that starter. I would be someplace with a friend, we'd get in the car and it would refuse to start. The friend would always get that panicked look, and I would calmly say, "Hand me that hammer below your feet there, would ya?"

How hard should I hit it? I tried hitting it with a wrench but still nothing.

Tough call, but if the solenoid is stuck a few taps is usually enough.
As mentioned before, you should start looking at pulling and cleaning the NSS next.

Sounds like a bad battery, find someone with a multimeter. Should be 12 volts or greater at all times. If you go to crank it and voltage drops to like 5 volts, there's your problem. The fact that it took so long to charge and the charger was still blinking, could indicate a dead cell (which can't be fixed by charging it). Try finding a used battery on craigslist if short on funds.

It's the system telling you to give it a brake, but the lamp designers took online English courses too.

I do believe it's normal, at least it is on some year models.

try starting it in neutral. you may have to hold the key forward in the start position while moving shifter around in neutral position, slightly sliding it towards reverse and drive.

another thing you can do is check to see if you have any reverse lights.

these are symptoms of a bad NSS or neutral start/safety switch.

It is normal. I observed it yesterday on my 87 MJ when it cranked a long time.

As for brakes:

Brakes:

I've seen drum and disc brakes, drums and discs break, but never drum or disc breaks.

I had an occasion where I had to give my brakes a break.

So... Whatever happened? Was it the battery? Starter? Something more sinister?
