red top optima's have served me well in the Michigan winters as well as light use with a winch. About as expensive as a battery gets though $160-180. I figure the money I put into one of those, will save me from the money I have to put into 2 or 3 of a standard battery. This is coming from a college student living on his own also, not some rich bastard lol

For a daily driver, I buy Sears Die Hard. Silver (mid-line) model. No need to go for the gold. Silver level lasts 6-7 years in MN.

Just found this link. This company makes batteries for Sears(diehard) as well as others. Seems any of these would work well. Just find the best deal.

How are Interstate batteries compared to the Sears Diehard? Had a Diehard (think it was a Silver) in our old Blazer and I remember it lasted a long time.

Also anyone know what group size our XJ's take? Mine came with one that is clearly too big, doesn't even fit in the battery tray...

Both are made by the same company. So I'm sure they are pretty dang close in quality. I have heard peope swear up and down about interstate. They might be my choice for when I need a new battery.

FSM Part Number:56041105AB
BCI Group Size Classification: 34
CCA: 500
Reserve Capacity: 110 mins.
AH:60
Load Test Amperage:250

This is for an 00'. Your mileage may differ.

There are only several companies who make batteries. Most car engineers come up with a battery size/design for their vehicle and go to one of these manufacturers. They make it and then slap some sort of car manufacturers sticker on it.

Was going to go with an Optima until I read multiple post on several forums over the years where the Optima batteries were not lasting like they originally did due to the manufacturing process being moved over-seas. If you do the research and remember from before, Optima changed their warranty period/policy and it is not what it used to be due to so many returns.

Have never had a Die-Hard let me down

the people who make the sears battery make the odyssey. i have a old odyssey and cant kill it. when i do ill be buying a sears.

also i would reccomend buying the highest CCA and Amp rated that you can afford and will fit. my theory is that less stress on the battery=longer life. plus you pull more out of it when needed i.e. winching.
just my 2 cents

cheers!
