Default Bad Brain??

I just got a 96 Cherokee, its been sitting for a year, and the last time it was worked on the fuel pump was replaced. He had hooked a wire from the battery to the pump, well it sparked and wouldn't start after that. The motor turns over but won't fire. Checked the coil not getting any spark. Hooked up a diognostic machine to it and it couldn't communicate with the brain. I was wondering if I get a brain for it from a junk yard if it would work, or would I have to have the brain sent in and tuned for my jeep. Thanks for the help in advance.

It is possible, when you arc things it does have a negative effect on electronics,if you get one from a jy hope it is not to exspensive.

Default ok

Yeah I hope not too, will be alot cheaper then ordering one from the dealer though. I was wondering if I did get one though if it would work, I was told it may not b/c they are programed to a specific vehicle.

Someone here did have that issue not to long ago, they got on3 for a different year and the security system would not allow him to start it,he got one that was specific to his year and all was good,he was able to match-up part numbers for his. Yours being a 96,You need to look at 96-98 xjs.

Cool

before you run to the jy, check all of your fuses! And check your pcm (brain) for correct power and grounds. Maybe that arc blew a fuse or open circuited a bad wire. connector 1, B+ in cavity 22, ground in cav 31 and 32. connector 3, cavity11 should have 12v supply(key on power),cavity 12 is the asd relay output this is a dark green/orange tracer wire that feeds ignition coil, injectors etc
