Question backfireing threw intake and missing

hi, i got a 98 cherokee with the 4.0 and it ran great and then the front main seal went out in the trans and so what did i do i dropped it and replaced it and mad sure the pump was not cracked so the i put the trans back in put everything back together and went to start it up and it started for a little while but sounded like it was missing bad and then i killed it with the key after a few minutes and tryed to fire it again and it would run for a min then backfire threw the intake and now it wont start at all.

PLEASE HELP I AM LOST AND CANT AFFORD TO DRIVE MY LIFTED TRUCK EVERYDAY.

CPS installed correctly?

Did you touch the distributor?

I am having the same problem (excluding the trans problems)
When it starts (cold) its fine but when it heats up it starts bogging and backfiring through the intake.. But it seems to recover after maybe 5-10 secs of idling rough. Then it's fine for another 20 secs?

I've replaced the fuel pump and filter, dist cap and rotor, cps, coolant temp sensor, o2, plugs..

Going to keep my eye on this post
Everything is hooked up correct

Obviously it's something you did! Check everything.

Did you take the flex plate off?
When putting the trans back on, if you banged the bellhousing against the CPS, you could have damaged it.

ALWAYS USE GUIDE PINS TO GET THE TRANS LINED UP PROPERLY - And it's good practice to get the CPS out of the way. Guide pins make it so much easier!
