Assuming it is original should be a 29 spline.
Do you a Factory Trac Loc in the 8.25?

Ralph i don't know much about it, just picked it up, "part time" shows up on the dash when in 4WD and everything seems original

Has nothing to do with with a Factory Trac Loc.
When you say locker do you mean a lunchbox type?
Cause I am kind of under the impression that you can only install that type in an open carrier.
But don't quote me on that cause I know next to nothing about them. LOL.

Yes I want to install a lunchbox locker, that is my impression also , open carrier only!!
The build sheet says it is Command-Trac Part Time 4WD System.
Thanks

Command trac is the transfer case , which means you have the option of part time 4-wd. It has nothing to do with the rear diff which may be open or trac-loc. You need to check the rear diff (jack up rear end of vehicle turn one wheel, if other side turns opposite direction it's open. If same direction it's trac lock) to see what you have

Thanks exasemech, I knew that, 30 years ago, LOL It has been way too long since I worked on these things. I've gotten too used to my simple dragster.

To be sure what carrier you have, pull the diff cover. I have seen many limited slips so worn out that I thought they were open until I pulled the cover and ..... surprise

What 4.3L XJ said.

Thanks Ralph, not much difference!
I fall about 700 foot elevation in 1/2 mile, when it snows I have to have 4WD and chains to get to the top of the ridge. I welded the last Cherokee's spiders up because it never saw the road, this one will see some dry road use.
thanks again

A 2000 will be a 29 spline for sure.
