Default Axle problem?

When I lock my wheel all the way left and turn for a bit, the back left (or inside tire) starts to skip. That tire is also wearing out on the outside and the car pulls to the left. Guy I bought it from said it was because of the tire by I'm not so sure anymore... I have a 2000 xj with a d35. Thanks

Well when i spin in the clay pit we have here in sfl, both tires spin. So does that mean i have posi or limited slip? And since when does the d35 have that?

I had an 87 that had a LS in the D35...

a LS shouldn't make one tire wear more then the other... both rears would wear funny unless your making one sided turns all the time lol

Have you looked at the diff fluids? Might change them and add some diff additive...

You may have a limited slip. Best way to tell will be to pull the cover and look at the carrier .

But there may also be a sticker in the glove box if it was a factory installed unit

Yeah and when i lock the steering wheel all the way to the right, it barely skips if anything. The guy i bought it from said he changed all the fluids. Tranny and all. What should i look for when i open the diff? And what fluid do i put back in?

I use 75-90w gear oil, if it has a LSD I use diff additive (I like Mopars additive the best, no matter what brand its going in) but if the fluid is good no need to change it unless you want to take a peak at whats inside...

So the limited slip has the square opening in the carrier? Im sure my mechanic can figure it out though. I dont really wanna deal with diff fluid at home lol ill probably change the fluid to try to fix the problem. Any more guesses at what can be wrong with my axle?

You very well could have a LSD, if the previous owner changed the diff fluid, they may not have added any/enough friction modifier, this allows the clutches to slip some, to much and it will not work as intended (think open diff), not enough/none it will bind. Just my $.02

Okay well im probably going to just put additive in and see if that fixes it. Is not having that additive in bad for the diff?

It can/will cause premature wear of the clutches, therefore making it an open differential.

eh. is it expensive to change or fix the clutches if theyre bad? ive been mudding and spinning my wheels quite a bit. its probably got 10k on the diffs without the fluid. alot? its just a DD that does the occasional mudding
