Question axle confusion???

ok so my first upgrade im saving for is ARB air lockers but before i do this i want to make sure I have axles that will support this with 33" inch tires in the future
my 95 xj sport has the 8.25 27 spline out back and a D30 up front both all stock havent been geared or anything (that i know of)
I have heard mixed opinions on the 27 spline.... obviously compared to the 29 spline its not as strong... but it seems like there is more support for the 27..
so my question is what should I do to run 33s with air lockers front and rear? should I re-gear what I have or should swap em completely? or am I good to go? oh and this is gunna be a dd that i will want to do some mild to wild stuff in...
thank you in advance

Brett... you might give the community a chance to return home from work. I am sure this is a subject a lot of people can (hopefully will) chime in on, but most may not be as lucky as I am to have access to the forums pretty much all day.

Be patient I am sure you will get some responses later..

The front axel should be okay with 33s, although investing in some Chromoly axel shafts wouldn't be a bad idea. for the rear I'd either swap in a 29 spline 8.25 or a D44 out of an older XJ. The 27 spline 8.25s are only marginally stronger than a Dana35, not worth investing any money into IMO

If you buy an arb for the 8.25 i think they only make for the 29 spline, but you could find a set and swap the 27spline for the 29spline.

well i did find an arb for the 27 spline in the catalog but if the 29 spline is better then, that's what i want! lol
chromolly shafts sound spendy! lol gotta link to a place i can find em?
as far as swappin the rear to a 29 spline whats involved? shafts and the carrier? or do i need to go find a 97 up axle to just swap out?
thanks for your feedback guys! sadly the jeep was broken into last night so i gotta work on putting a dash back in it and i gotta figure out why the rear hatch wont lock! lol later guys have a good one!

Just find a whole 29 Spline 8.25 and swap the whole axel over, don't bother messing with the gears at that point. I'd go D44 but 8.25s are generally cheaper and easier to find. Swapping a rear axel is pretty much, unbolting shocks, u-bolts, driveshaft, undoing brake lines and e-brake cables, then do everything in reverse to install the new one. Depending on how rusty your bolts are it shouldn't take but an couple hours tops.

thanks zachsxj ive heard somethings about the d44 not having the same e brake set up... my guess is it would depend on the year of the axle do you know anything about this? and also if im gunna swap to a d44 did they make one with disc brakes for it?

The D44 and 8.25 are close to being in the same strength category from what i have read.

It might be possible to just hit a upull and grab some 29 spline shafts, no need for a carrier as the ARB is the carrier. Just install these into your original housing.

If your gonna do all that work now is the time to regear.. they have to reset your setup anyway.

if this will work that is what i would prefer to do so that i dont have to swap driveshafts and what not...
i will do some searching on here to make sure thats all i have to do

i dont know much about gear ratios but what do ya'll reccomend for a daily driver with 33's?
