can an 88 cherokee front axle work with a 92 if i dont connect the drive shaft?

it will work just fine but its got 2 piece axle shafts not sure why you would want that

it will only have the 2 piece axle shaft, or CAD (center axle disconnect) if it has the 231 transfer case.
the 242 or full time option (select trac) transfer case has the full 1 piece shaft. these came mostly in the limited model.

but either way, yes, both axles will fit with or without the driveshaft.

the no driveshaft statement was because i dont wanna risk blowing up the t-case

Think he asked cuz of ratio difference and to be honest it does matter if you wanna keep the tc intact (wrong gear = split case)

i ripped off the axle mounts so I'm currently beefing up with quarter inch steel mounts for LCA and UCA mounts. also wanna put some chromoly shafts in along with OTN steering.
