I have a 91 cherokee sport with a D35 in the rear does anyone know if its open or limited slip?

You have to pull the diff cover and look its easy to do.

a open carrier will look similar to this,or pull the cover and post a pic some one will tell you

Or jack the axle off the ground and give a tire a spin if the other tire spins the opposite direction it is an open differential.

so i jacked it up and spun the tire and the opposite tire spun the other dirrection. But an auto tech teacher just told me that that meant it wass limited slip. heres a link to a couple pics of it ttp://www.allbordercollies.com/images/diff1.jpg

If it spins the opposite way, it means the spider gears are working. That is what happens if the drive shaft does not move. A limited slip, unless completely worn out or a locker will make the drive shaft move and the other wheel will move the same way.

Look in the glove box. There should be a sticker in there if the Jeep has a limited slip installed at the factory.
