I tested the TPS and it was out of range on the signal volts going back to the ECM. I replaced it in the hope that it would fix the torque converter issue. It didn't.

I drove to town to have the codes read and cleared. I got a Shift Solenoid B code like before. I cleared the codes and left. As I was driving down the road, it locked for about 30 feet then it unlocked and set a CEL for the "Shift Solenoid B". Now the only time I can get it to lock is if I stop, put the transmission in P, turn the Jeep off, start the Jeep, shift up through the gears to D. Then it will lock again for about 30-40 feet and unlock.
Did you retest the brake lamp circuit after the new switch was installed to verify it was okay?

Did you retest the NSS after you rebuilt it to verify it was okay? As I recall you didn't get any voltages readings when you tested it initially.

I did retest the brake lamp switch after replacing it and it was OK.

I need to retest the NSS switch. I will run out now and do that since it is a simple test and let you know.

Well the NSS is supplying the proper voltage to all 4 wires at the TCM.

Would a bad converter cause the TCM to do what it is doing (lock for a minute and then not lock it again until the engine is shut off)?

Possibly.

See what it does after you change all three solenoids.

I got the solenoids today.

I dropped the pan and checked the Shift A & B solenoids. The rear solenoid (B) ohm'd out within spec. The middle solenoid (A) didn't ohm at all. I went ahead and replaced both the shift solenoids. I cleaned the pan, put on the new filter, put the pan on, and put in new fluid (2 quarts). I started the Jeep and shifted through the gears. I took it for a spin around the block. IT SHIFTED GREAT AND LOCKED THE TORQUE CONVERTER. When I got back, I was about 1 quart low on fluid so I added the quart to get it up to full.

Thanks for all the help.

Here is the solenoids I bought in the event that someone needs to replace their solenoids and don't want to pay the $190+ that the auto parts stores have. These have the factory brackets already installed.

Amazon.com: DACCO K97958 Solenoid Kit, 2 Shift & 1 Lock-Up with OEM Brackets, A340 Series, 1985-Up: Automotive Amazon.com: DACCO K97958 Solenoid Kit, 2 Shift & 1 Lock-Up with OEM Brackets, A340 Series, 1985-Up: Automotive

my 2000 jeep cherokee is doing something like that when I'm driving it shifts between 3rd and D causing my rpm to go up and down. I'm new at this and have no clue what is going on with my jeep but am afraid to drive to far worrying it will break down

If you have no experience working on Jeeps you may want to print off the pages of this thread and take them, and your Jeep, to a shop that has experience working on Jeeps (of your vintage) and explain your problem to them. Get a quote before employing them to fix it.

If you do this, start a new thread of your own so it won't get lost in this thread.
