Default Dex!!

Wow, so many of the responses were so wrong...AW4 uses Dex3 trans fluid !! Dex6 is backwards compatible and works well too. Do NOT use atf3 or atf4 unless you enjoy replacing or rebuilding transmissions.

I went to my friends transmission shop a few days ago suspecting that I had a bad torque converter, we found that my problem was not in the trans but a miss in the engine. While there I asked about changing/flushing the trans fluid and he said that if there was no problems with the trans do not replace the fluid. I have worked with this guy, gone racing with him and even had him rebuild a F-150 trans for me but this is opposite from what I have read on this forum.

All that's required with an AW4, under normal use, is a drain and refill every 30,000 miles. Every 15,000 miles for severe duty like taxi, towing, or mail delivery and the like.

I have no idea when the PO might have changed the fluid,,,would there be any possible issues with changing the fluid, even if it might be the original fluid? I realize that this may sound like a stupid question,,,just dont want to shock the trans,,,
